Juvenile Probation
The 12th District Court Service Unit (also commonly known as Juvenile Probation) is a component of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and covers Chesterfield County and City of Colonial Heights.
The Court Service Unit
The Court Service Unit (CSU):
- Has a staff of 26
- Is divided into three sub-units:
- Intake
- Parole
- Probation
- Provides many services to the citizens of Chesterfield and its local government and private agency partners
- Works and coordinates services with many local agencies to better serve the needs of the community
- Has many staff members serve on local committees and teams to:
- Enhance the cooperation
- Improve the services for the youth and families of Chesterfield and Colonial Heights
Office Hours
The working office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Domestic Intake Hours
The Domestic Intake hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please note that on the 4th Wednesday of each month, the office is closed at noon for staff training.
Criminal Intake & Protective Order Hours
The Criminal Intake and Protective Order hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Please note: The office is closed on weekends and state holidays. There is an intake officer on call after hours for the police department only.
The Court Service Unit uses risk-based assessments to guide its actions and assist in determining the level of services needed.
Intake
- Intake is responsible for reviewing all juvenile arrest reports for probable cause and determining the best course of action for juvenile offenders. The intake unit reviews an average of 3,000 arrest reports a year.
Probation / Parole
- Probation is tasked with supervising youth who are placed on court-ordered probation. The services provided to youth and their families are based on risk and need.
- Parole provides supervision for youth released from the state run Juvenile Correctional Center or local Community Placement Programs.
