About the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office

The Circuit Court Clerk is charged with more than 800 statutory responsibilities that are either judicial, non-judicial or fiscal. The Clerk's Office is the administrative arm of the Circuit Court. Judges are ethically prohibited from out of court communications (written or oral). Therefore, questions as to any administrative process should be directed to the Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Judicial

Judicial responsibilities include acting as custodian of the Circuit Court’s records by managing filings, pleadings and other case records lodged with the Court and Clerk’s Office; ensuring members of the judiciary are provided case-related information needed to conduct court proceedings; managing jury trials; and lending overall judicial support by maintaining and disposing of civil and criminal evidence, receipting criminal fines and court costs, collecting and disbursing restitution on behalf of crime victims, investing and distributing monies on behalf of civil litigants or third-party beneficiaries, and providing statistical data, case-related information and court documents.

Case Records

The Clerk's Office maintains permanent land and court records dating from 1749, the year of the county's inception, to present. The Record Room is located on the ground floor of the main Courts Building. Additionally, there are online indexes that are available 24/7:

Filings

The Court does not accept case-related filings via the internet, email or fax. Filings are accepted via mail, courier or hand delivery.
