About General District Court

Cases for all court divisions can be accessed by docket number or name on at Virginia Judicial System. The General District Court presides over:

Bond Hearings

Bond hearings are set (excluding holidays) Monday-Thursday at 8:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. and Fridays at 8:30 a.m. with a maximum of four bond hearings being set on each date and time. This bond hearing notice must be emailed to our office by noon the day before any requests to be set for the next day. View the request a General District Court bond hearing (PDF).

Civil Cases

Civil cases involving:

  • amounts up to $25,000
  • recovery of personal property

Criminal Cases

Criminal cases including:

  • Felony preliminary hearings
  • Misdemeanor trials

Small Claims

Small claims cases:

  • Up to $5,000
  • personal property valued up to $5,000

All traffic court cases.

Access Cases Online

  1. Log into the Virginia Judicial System website.
  2. Select General District Court under Case Status and Information.
  3. Select “Chesterfield GDC”
  4. Access by Name, Case Number or Date
