Accommodation Requests
Accommodation requests should be made as soon as the need is identified.
Requests for Accommodation for Person with Disabilities
Chesterfield Courts provide reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities who require assistance. The Courts have the following items generally available upon request:
- Furniture Adjustments
- Equipment Adjustments
- Hearing Amplification/Assistive Listening Devices
- Parking Access
- General District and Circuit Courts are located in the main Courts Building at 9500 Courthouse Road. If looking at the front of the building, handicapped parking spaces and ramps are located to the right.

Interpreters
Circuit Court
Interpreters are not automatically scheduled for all cases. Call the Clerk’s Office at 804-748-1241 to determine eligibility and request interpreter services.

General District Court
Interpreters are not automatically scheduled for all cases and assistance is available for anyone with a disability. Prior notification will help with the coordination of services, so please call the Clerk’s Office at 804-748-1231 to determine eligibility and request interpreter services.
Foreign Language Interpreters
The Court has a full time Spanish interpreter on staff and can utilize the language line to assist with other languages.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing
The Court works in coordination with the Department of Deaf & Hard of Hearing to provide interpreters.
Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court
If you are physically challenged, before your arrival, you may notify the Clerk's Office at 804-748-1379, the Clerk's Office will arrange to have a bailiff available to help when you arrive at the Courthouse.
Foreign Language Interpreters
The Court provides foreign language interpreters in all matters before the Court regardless of whether you are the petitioner, respondent, victim, parent, child, or defendant.
If you need an interpreter to file a petition, please call the Court Service Unit at 804-748-1372 to schedule an appointment and inform them that you will need an interpreter.
- If your case is not heard on the same day as your appointment, the Clerk’s Office will ensure that you have an interpreter assigned for your hearing, provided you inform them at the time of filing.
- Prior to court, you may confirm with the Clerk’s Office at (804) 748-1379 that an interpreter has been assigned to assist you.
In order to request a foreign language interpreter, we ask that you call the Clerk’s Office at (804) 748-1379. We have language services that we can use during the phone call to assist you.

Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Visually Impaired Accommodations
- The Court also provides interpreters for the deaf/hard of hearing, and the blind/visually impaired.
- If you are deaf or hard of hearing and need accommodations during your hearing, please make your request directly to the Clerk of Court by email.
- If you are blind or visually impaired and need accommodations, please contact the Clerk of Court by email as well.
