Mobility Services
Improving Existing Transportation Options
Mobility Services is focused on improving existing transportation options and coordinating a community-wide transportation service network comprised of the transportation providers to meet the needs of our citizens. Persons in need may include older adults, people with disabilities and low-income individuals without personal vehicles. View a video about Mobility Services.
Service Area
The service area includes any location in Chesterfield County. Rides are available to destinations outside the county for employment and medical purposes, including limited service to the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg and Richmond; the counties of Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Powhatan and Prince George; and Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly Fort Lee). Eligibility
To quality for Mobility Services options, riders must:
- Register with Mobility Services
- Reside in Chesterfield County
- Must meet one of the following:
- Be age 60 or older
- Have a disability (temporary or permanent)
- Live in a low-income household
Registration
Registration is free, quick and easy. Register by completing the online Mobility Services registration form. Once you register, you will receive your Mobility Services ID card, an Mobility Services Riders Guide (PDF). The riders guides will have all the information you need to start using services.

Non-Discrimination Policy
Mobility Services, in accordance with Title VI Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964, will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs or activities. Mobility Services will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aides and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in our programs, services and activities. - Are handicapped-accessible vehicles available?

Some of the transportation providers have vehicles that are equipped with lifts or ramps to assist passengers who need to board while using wheelchairs, walkers or other devices. There is no additional charge to ride on these vehicles. Inform the reservations agent of this need when the reservation is made.
- Is assistance available to help passengers?

Drivers will assist passengers into and out of the vehicle, and will assist with small packages.
- Are portable oxygen tanks permitted?

Portable oxygen tanks are permitted on the vans. The passenger must be in full control of the tank or be traveling with an aide who can assist with this control.
- Are service animals permitted?

A service animal, such as a seeing-eye dog, is permitted on the vans. Make sure that the reservation agent is aware that the passenger will have a service animal when making a reservation. Pets are not permitted.
- Are safety belts required?

For the safety of all riders, passengers are required to wear seat belts when riding in a van.
- Is service affected during inclement weather?

During inclement weather, there may be times when the Access On Demand service providers are not operating on a normal schedule. Every effort will be made to provide minimal service interruption for those customers who need life-sustaining services, such as dialysis. Please contact the service provider directly for more information during these periods.
