The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) was formed in 1978 by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors. The purpose of the Youth Advisory Board is to advise the Board of Supervisors regarding issues relating to youth and to provide opportunities for community input on youth issues in Chesterfield County.
The Youth Advisory Board:
Engages youth around the county to participate in local government
Number of Members: One junior and one senior from each county high school and up to eight at-large youths representing students not enrolled in Chesterfield County Public Schools, such as those attending home, private or governor’s schools. Additionally, adults may volunteer to work with the youth members of the board.
Terms of Service: Students who join the board as juniors serve a two year term. Those who join as seniors serve for one year. Adult volunteers serve for a full year and can choose whether or not to continue volunteering beyond the first year.
The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) applications are reviewed in July and appointments are made in August.
