- Flushing Water Lines at Hydrants
Utilities’ customers may see hydrant flushing signs (pictured below) at entrances to their neighborhoods when Chesterfield County is flushing water lines to maintain water quality. The process of flushing the water line only takes about 20 minutes and will occur Mondays through Fridays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Please note: Customers may see water flowing from hydrants. Customers also may notice a slight drop in water pressure and/or temporary discolored water. Running a faucet for a few minutes should clear up any discoloration. Customers are advised to postpone doing laundry during the flushing to avoid the potential of discoloration to the laundry.

Utilities staff will always have a Chesterfield County identification badge and Chesterfield County vehicle as proof of their affiliation with Chesterfield County. The flushing of water lines typically does not require any Chesterfield County Utilities employee to be on a homeowner’s property or require entrance into a residence.
