December 2021 Everyday Excellence: Procurement

During the Wednesday, Dec. 15 Board of Supervisors meeting, Chesterfield County Administrator Dr. Joe Casey recognized the Procurement Department as the recipient of the December 2021 Everyday Excellence for being reaccredited once again this fall by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). Additionally, several individuals recently received a new certification as well.

The Procurement Department as a whole received reaccreditation through the NIGP Quality Public Procurement Departments (QPPD), formerly the OA4, in September. This accreditation establishes the department as a recognized industry leader, highlights commitment and adherence to standard best practices, and celebrates the continued pursuit of excellence. Chesterfield is one of only 51 agencies in the U.S. and Canada to currently hold this designation, which it has every year since 1999.

Meanwhile, the four members of the department who earned the new certification—director Stephanie Brown as well as Vin Kamatchi, Kelly McClurg, and Lisa Russell—did so over the course of the last year. The NIGP established the Certified Procurement Professional (NIGP-CPP) in 2020, the only certification that specifically targets mid- to executive-level procurement leaders in the public sector.

“I appreciate this recognition,” Brown told the Board of Supervisors. “We achieved this reaccreditation as a department, as a whole, and during a time when we do have tremendous staff shortages, and as you’re aware supply chain issues are certainly impacting our operation. So I think it is very noteworthy. I did bring staff with me because I think it’s important for those that are day in day out doing the hard work are recognized as well. We appreciate you all taking a moment to recognize the department and all of the hard work that we do.”

Joining Brown at the meeting were Russell as well as fellow staff members Roberta Jardine, Stacy Seay, and Amanda McCaffrey.

“One of our most valued assets is you, the people, who make up Chesterfield County and serve the citizens Chesterfield,” Board Chairman Jim Holland said.
