Proposed Plans for Old Matoaca Elementary School

Concepts for the reuse of the former Matoaca Elementary School building and campus, which sits on about 11 acres has been vacant since spring 2021, calls for retaining the historic school building by redeveloping the interior space to create housing options for seniors and bringing community park and recreation amenities to the grounds.

Community Meetings

Community meetings have been held to solicit feedback on the initial concept for the adaptive reuse of the old Matoaca Elementary School building and surrounding grounds. The 11-acre facility and property ceased operations in 2021 and was vacated by Chesterfield County Public Schools in spring of 2022.

Jan. 10, 2023, Community Meeting

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, Matoaca District Supervisor Kevin Carroll hosted his second community meeting to discuss concepts for the reuse of the former Matoaca Elementary School building and campus. Oct. 5, 2022, Community Meeting

On Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, Matoaca District Supervisor Kevin Carroll hosted a community meeting during which Community Enhancement staff member and housing specialist Nicholas Feucht showed attendees several examples of repurposed school buildings from across the Commonwealth and answered questions from the public.
