CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police, in conjunction with the Chesterfield County Fire Department’s Scuba Rescue Team, Petersburg Fire Department, Petersburg Police Department and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, recovered the remains of the man who was last seen in the Appomattox River near the Campbell’s Bridge, located at 21600 Chesterfield Avenue, around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
Police responded to the area after witnesses reported that an adult African American male appeared to be treading water and in distress. Responding officers arrived on scene but were unable to locate the male. The Chesterfield police and Fire & EMS were assisted by several other agencies during the search; however, efforts were suspended overnight.
On the morning of Saturday, May 16, 2020, the Chesterfield County Fire Department’s Scuba Rescue Team resumed the search and recovery efforts. The victim’s body was located at 11:25 a.m.
The victim is identified as Michael Treyvon Pushia, 27, of Nesmith, South Carolina. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. At this point, there are no signs of foul play.
