CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested and charged a man in relation to the 2017 death of Bruce M. Garnett, 67.
Just before 3:30 p.m. on April 21, 2017, police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Chinaberry Drive to check the welfare of Garnett, who had not been seen in several weeks. Officers attempted to make contact with Garnett inside his residence but were unsuccessful. Upon entering his residence, officers located Garnett, who was confirmed deceased by EMS personnel.
The investigation indicates that Garnett was deceased in his residence for several weeks before his remains were located. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and established that Garnett had been stabbed to death.
On Saturday, Aug. 4, James M. Wheeler, 56, of Stuarts Draft, Va., was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in relation to Garnett’s death. Wheeler, who was known to Garnett, is currently being held at Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton, Va., without bond.
