CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield Police continue to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 11300 block of Sunfield Drive on Thursday, Feb. 18.
At about 7:34 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a home in the 11300 block of Sunfield Drive. It had been reported that an adult male had threatened an adult female with a knife and had held her against her will.
Responding officers entered the house to begin investigating the incident. Shortly after they arrived, the male, identified as Bruce W. Terry, 50, exited a bedroom and pointed what appeared to be a long gun at them. The officers fired at Terry, who then retreated back into the bedroom. The officers made a tactical withdrawal from the house to get the unharmed female to safety and summoned emergency medical, negotiations and SWAT personnel to the scene.
Officers used a technological resource to locate Terry in the house; Terry, who was found in a bedroom, attempted to disable it. Officers then introduced a second technological measure and were able to see that Terry was injured and somewhat lethargic.
A group of SWAT officers entered the house to attempt to get Terry out to rescue personnel. Terry was armed with a knife when officers encountered him, but they were able to disarm him and take him into custody. Terry was transported to an area hospital for treatment and he is still hospitalized at this time.
Police have obtained the following warrants for Terry, of the 11300 block of Sunfield Drive, in relation to the incident: domestic assault, abduction, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three counts of brandishing a firearm and three counts of assault on law enforcement.
