If you’re planning on taking your pup out and about, please keep these tips in mind:

Call Ahead – Although we have done most of the due-diligence for you, rules do change. Please call ahead to verify the location allows dogs.

Leash Up – Even the most well-behaved dogs can sometimes be tempted to misbehave, especially in a new environment. Please always keep your dog leashed because after all, it is the law!

Be Courteous – Please clean up after your pet and be attentive to your surroundings.

If you’re looking for a park where your dog can socialize and enjoy a little off-leash freedom, Chesterfield has several dog parks.

Located at Rockwood Park in North Chesterfield, Ruff House Dog Park is a leash-free outdoor facility with separate runs for small and large dogs. After romping and rolling, take your dog for a leashed walk around the 171-acre park, which also happens to be the county’s oldest park. With extensive hard and soft surface nature trails, this is the perfect park for you and your furry friend to enjoy the great outdoors!

Goyne Park, located in Chester, is home to the Chester Dog Park which offers separate runs for small and large dogs in an outdoor wooded lot making it perfectly shaded during hot summer days. If your pup is an adrenaline junky, be sure to check out the agility training area. He may (or may not) become the next agility star!

The Clover Hill Dog Park at [email protected] is Chesterfield’s newest dog park, conveniently located off Hull Street in Midlothian. This dog park also offers separate runs for small and large dogs. Both spaces are a great size, allowing your pup to burn off lots of energy! And we’d be amiss if we didn’t mention the newest feature at this park: a water hose so Fido can cool off on hot summer days!

After all the romping, rolling, walking, running, and exploring, you and your pup will most likely work up an appetite! With over 40 restaurants offering dog-friendly patios, there’s sure to be a perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy delicious bites. Whether you’re craving Mexican cuisine, seafood specialties, pizza, BBQ or sandwiches, Chesterfield has you and your pup covered! See the full list of places to get a special pup treat.

Fun with Fido doesn’t stop there! After (over) indulging in good food and drinks, swing by a local Starbucks, Bruster’s or Dunkin Donuts and spoil your furry friend with a special dog treat. Pup cup, anyone? Don’t forget to grab a treat for yourself; you deserve one too! See the full list of places to get a special pup treat.

If you haven’t pampered your dog enough, we’ve got another idea to really show your furry friend how much you love him. Visit a local pet store and let your pup pick out a new special toy, a tasty dog chew, a new stylish collar, or all the above! With a few chain stores, and some small mom-and-pop shops, your dog is bound to find the best of the best!

Spending quality time with your furriest of friends is a great way to explore all that Chesterfield County has to offer. If your pup has more energy to burn, there are numerous doggy daycares throughout the county that’ll give your dog a chance to romp and roll with friends.

As a reminder, don’t forget that dogs must always be leashed, and if you live in Chesterfield, you must have a valid dog license. If you’re thinking of adding a new addition to your family and aren’t sure where to start, check out the Chesterfield County Animal Services Facebook page for adoptable dogs, and other pet resources.
