Calling this “a watershed year for Chesterfield citizens,” Clover Hill District Supervisor Chris Winslow took the gavel for the first time Wednesday evening after being chosen by his colleagues to serve as chair of the Board of Supervisors for 2022.

“We will roll up our sleeves as we plan with citizens Chesterfield’s future across many fronts,” Winslow said during the board’s annual organizational meeting.

That includes a planned November bond referendum that will serve as a road map for capital projects in the county for the next decade.

“Public safety, schools, parks, libraries and transportation – these capital needs are just as important to us today as they are for the kids and grandkids who will live, work and play in the county for many years to come,” he added.

Winslow, who was re-elected to a second four-year term on the Board of Supervisors in 2019, served as the board’s vice chair last year.

This year, he’ll work in leadership alongside Midlothian District Supervisor Leslie Haley, who was chosen as vice chair Wednesday. Haley previously was vice chair in 2017 and 2018 before being elected chair in 2019 and 2020.

Winslow acknowledged Chesterfield has “important work to do” in long-range planning with regard to economic development, job creation, sports tourism and key land-use questions, as well as the recruitment and retention of a high-quality workforce, while remaining mindful of the tax implications for residents and businesses.

You can view his remarks in their entirety here.

Also Wednesday, board members adopted procedures governing their monthly meetings and approved a calendar of regular meeting dates for 2022.
