[ARCHIVED] Chesterfield Makes Richmond Times-Dispatch List of Top Workplaces

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — The Richmond Times-Dispatch and TopWorkplaces.com have tabbed Chesterfield among its 87 honorees as one of the Richmond region’s best places to work.

In its ninth-annual awards for companies, government divisions, and non-profits in central Virginia, the RTD and Top Workplaces put Chesterfield County among just four “mega” employers, defined as organizations with 900 employees or more.

This comes on the heels of the county being named among Top Workplace’s top for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) Practices in the fall and among its Top 100 employers out of over 300 organizations with 2,500+ employees throughout the country earlier this year.

Per the RTD, the lists showing the top-ranking businesses in each of four size categories won’t be disclosed until the Top Workplaces awards program is held later this spring. That event and a special section of the Times-Dispatch to be published at the same time will honor the 87 businesses, their rankings and highlight the top companies in each size category.

This was Chesterfield’s first year participating in the RTD Top Workplaces program.

“Once again, we are so honored to receive this recognition from the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Top Workplaces,” said Chesterfield County Human Resources Director Mary Martin Selby. “Being chosen as one of just four ‘mega’ organizations in the metro area speaks to our continued high-level of customer service, our commitment to our workforce, and the constant support we’ve received from our Board of Supervisors and leadership. Chesterfield is a First-Choice Community and a First-Choice Employer and we strive every day to not only meet those ideals but to surpass them. We continue to be very proud of the work we do and the culture we’ve built here in Chesterfield.”

Top Workplaces uses Energage, an organization that researches employee engagement levels nationwide, to gather information for the award. The surveys capture employee responses anonymously in four culture priorities: Alignment, connection, coaching and performance. The survey also measures employee satisfaction and confidence in leadership.

Per the RTD, Energage invited 1,141 companies in the region to participate in the program this year. Surveys were sent to more than 31,300 employees in the region from October to mid-February which garnered more than 17,900 responses from employees on numerous topics affecting workplace life, from their views on leadership, managers, pay and benefits to training and work-life balance.

It also looked at other factors including how employers encourage community involvement and how businesses promote diversity. Employers who scored the highest locally—and exceeded national benchmarks—made the list.
