CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested one suspect and continue to seek a second suspect in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center at 2126 Ruffin Mill Road on Sunday, May 1.
At about 6:05 p.m. on May 1, police responded to multiple calls about a shooting at the travel center. Upon arrival, officers located one victim, identified as Keon A. Clanton, 35, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and learned a suspect vehicle had fled the area. Clanton, of the 17300 block of Old Stage Road in Dinwiddie County, was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A short time later, police responded to a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of West Hundred Road and Route 1 involving the suspect vehicle from this incident. One suspect, identified as Darnell S. White, 32, was taken into custody at this scene. A second suspect fled the crash scene; this suspect was described as a Black male, about 6 feet 3 inches tall and wearing a white T-shirt and red gym shorts. Police continue to seek this suspect, who was seen on surveillance cameras in a mobile home community near the crash scene.
White, of the 6200 block of Verdict Court, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
