CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield Police have arrested two juvenile male suspects in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred in the 6600 block of Iron Bridge Parkway on July 2.
At about 10:30 p.m. on July 2, police were called to the 6600 block of Iron Bridge Parkway for a report of a shooting at a party. Upon arrival, police discovered a juvenile male who had been shot in a bathroom. The victim, who appears to have been the intended target of the shooting, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending consent of his next of kin as required under Virginia code § 19.2-11.2.
Before police arrived, a Chesterfield Sheriff's deputy who was providing security at the party responded to the area of the reported shooting to investigate. While responding, the deputy encountered and confronted an individual who was displaying a handgun. The deputy fired and struck the individual, who was transported to an area hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. At this point, the investigation indicates that the person shot by the deputy was not involved in the fatal shooting.
Through investigation, detectives identified two juvenile males, one age 17 and one age 15, as suspects in the shooting. Detectives requested and obtained juvenile petitions for second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for both suspects. Both suspects were arrested on Sunday, July 3, and are being held at the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home.
