Parks and Recreation Department

Jan. 25, 2019

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — The Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department and Virginia Credit Union have partnered on a five-year sponsorship agreement worth $100,000 that includes Virginia Credit Union’s support of special events and expanded financial-education opportunities in the community.

Virginia Credit Union, a financial cooperative serving more than 278,000 members, will be the title sponsor for the annual Fourth of July Celebration at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. It will also sponsor Family Movie Night events, the Hang Time summer camp, the National Night Out program and the popular Trunk or Treat Halloween event, which is also held at the fairgrounds.

The partnership also means Virginia Credit Union will be expanding its financial education offerings to Parks and Recreation facilities, including the Bensley, Mayes-Colbert Ettrick, and Stonebridge recreation centers. Virginia Credit Union is a leading provider of financial education to its members and the community. Its seminars, workshops and classes reached more than 27,000 in 2018.

“Our headquarters, operations center and four of our branches are located in Chesterfield County, so we are especially excited to partner with the county to expand these popular programs,” said Virginia Credit Union President/CEO Chris Shockley. “We are pleased that this arrangement creates opportunities to bring sound financial education programs to residents through the county’s recreation centers.”

“We are very happy and proud to have Virginia Credit Union on board,” said Dr. James Worsley, Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation director. “This great collaboration demonstrates what can happen when Chesterfield partners with an organization that shares our commitment to the community. We are looking forward to enhancing events, programs and educational opportunities in 2019 and beyond, thanks to their outstanding support.”

A schedule of upcoming events will be announced on the Chesterfield County and Virginia Credit Union websites at chesterfield.gov/parks and vacu.org, respectively.
