[ARCHIVED] Join the Youth Citizen Board!

Join the Youth Citizen Board!

Chesterfield County is currently accepting applications for the Youth Citizen Board or YCB. The YCB is comprised of one junior and one senior from each high school in Chesterfield County, up to eight at large members, who represent the students not enrolled in county schools, and two adults from each magisterial district.

The YCB meets monthly, September-May, at the Community Development Building in the Chesterfield County complex. During the 2019-2020 school year, the board will plan and execute a service project or community event focused on an issue that they feel impacts youth in the community. They also will be responsible for planning the Outstanding Youth Awards program.

Members of the board also will have opportunities to engage in focus groups related to issues facing youth and learn more about their local government’s role in their lives, as well as the differences between the Board of Supervisors and the School Board.

YCB members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Applications will be reviewed by Citizen Information and Resources’ staff and then sent to the appropriate Board of Supervisors representative for the final decision. Juniors are appointed for two-year terms, seniors will serve one-year terms and adults will serve three-year terms.

Those interested in applying for the YCB must complete the application and submit it to Ellen Costlow by July 1.
