CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — As July 4 approaches, the Chesterfield County Police Department is reminding residents of the dangers of celebratory gunfire.
What goes up will come down, police say, and the consequences could be tragic. Police continue to investigate an incident in which Brendon Mackey, 7, was struck by a bullet before a fireworks display at Swift Creek Reservoir on July 4, 2013. Police believe the round that struck Brendon was fired randomly into the air, likely from a distance.
Police encourage residents to report any reckless use of firearms immediately.
