If my child has just been brought to the Juvenile Detention Home by the police, when and where will the detention hearing be held?: Detention hearings are held at the Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Usually, detention hearings are held at 10 a.m. on the next business day after a juvenile has been brought to the Juvenile Detention Home. The Code of Virginia specifies that a juvenile is entitled to a detention hearing within 72 hours of arrest.

1. As a parent or guardian, how can I find out if a juvenile has been detained?: During the intake process of a juvenile, a staff member will call to notify you of your child’s placement in detention. We will address any questions you may have at that time and you will be given an opportunity to speak briefly with your child.
